UPPER ASHBURTON DISTRICT.
The monthly meeting of the Upper Ashburtou itoad Board >was held on Saturday, Mr J. Tucker presiding. There were also present: Messrs it. Morris, J. "11. ! "Mulligan, and, A. Horsey. Apologies were received from Messrs J. Allen and J. Farrell. The Union Bank of Australia, Ltd., wrote intimating that the rate of interest on the board's overdraft had been increased to 6 per cent, per annum. Mrs E. Carter wrote drawing attention to the' state of Cross Street. Owing to the heavy rains the water was flooding the footpaths and- a portion of the road. It was decided to refer the matter to the board's surveyor. A communication was received from the Ashburton County Council' stating that the bridge on the abandoned race on the Winchmore; Road was at the disposal of the board for removal to another site. THe* board's surveyor reported that the bridge would be removed in the course of a week. The appointment of a scavenger was left in the hands of the chairman. It was decided to give notice that the board intended to strike a general rate of 5-16ths of a penny in the £; also to strike a eenarate rate of l-Bth of a penny in the £ on the rateable properties in the AUenton subdivision. The appointment of a ranger was held over till the next meeting. The following alterations on the valuation roll were approved: —Lots 13-12, D.P: 4906, R.V. Pocock to W. H. A. Tate; Lot 11. Baker; Lot 187, D.P 235, J. Smitfo to J. H. MacDonald: Lots 4, 15-16. Mrs J. Green to W. H. Porter; Lot 6. D.P. 2726, J. Campbell to K. r ,Campbell; Lot 8, D.P. 3795, J. Campbell, to K. Campbell; Lot TO, D.P. 468, Mrs R. Moore to Mrs H. McConnell; Lot 4 of Res. 350, Mrs S. J. Lowe to W. Hopwood: Lots 25, 26, 31, 32, 33 of Res. 350, Mrs W. T. Lill to S. H. Lill; Lots 1-2, D.P. 4050, H. Moody to W. S. V Fowke; R.S. 22054, 15390, 25063, Wi F. Evans to C. D. Hampton; Lot 118, D.P. 236", R.S. 7922, M. Willers to Mrs H. S. Taylor. Accounts ampunting to £373 16s were passed for payment. The chairman reported a debit balance at the bank of £1029 4s 7d. At a subsequent special .meeting of the board a resolution was passed making it unlawful for any person to cut grass for. seed on any road under the control of the board.
