For exceeding the speed limit Leslie Watson (Tinwald) was charged with driving a motor-car over the Ashburton Bridge at a rate of 40 miles an hour. He was convicted and fined £3, with costs. For similar offences A. Butler was fined 20s, with costs; J. S. Barrett, Christchurch, 30s, with costs; and John Payne, Christchurch, 20s, with costs.
Wilfred Corbefct was convicted and fined 20s and costs for riding a bicycle after sunset along Cameron Street without a light. Albert Lundy, Ashburton, for the same offence,.was .fined a similar amount. Florence Bryant' and Eveline-Bryant, Ashburton. for a similar offence, were convicted ■'and fined ss, with costs. On the same charge a conviction was entered against Mary Bryant. F. W. Baas (who did not appear),' proprietor of the Mount Somers Lime" and Stone Company, Ltd., was convicted and fined 20s, with costs (15s), for failing to give notice of a new .appointment as required by the Act. Two juveniles who were charged with having firearms in their possession were* admonished and discharged.
