It was decided to hold the matter over for a month, to enable members to peruse the Progress League's report on the subject.

The inspector reported that during the' month he had registered 47 dogs. He had notified Messrs A. Kane and W. *J. Adams to grub gorse and to trim their fences. The fence on the corner of Cambridge and Wellington streets would be cut down to~a height of about sft, to enable cars and vehicles to have a clear view when com-' ing round that corner. It was quite 10ft high at present. The channel on the belt had been working satisfactorily, and there was no cause for complaint. The motor by-laws had been receiving his attention,, and now that the first case had been before the Court he felt safe in going on with other cases. He had given verbal notice to owners of cattle that prosecutions would follow if cattle were found grazing on the roads.

The report was adopted. The Works CommitMe recommended that Beach Road be shingled (about seven yards to the chain), and that tenders be called for delivery of about 250 yards of shingle, to be taken from the Suffolk Street pit.—Adopted. Mr F. Johnston presented a petition signed by 38 ratepayers asking that culverts be placed at intersections on 800 eh Road.

It wns decided to give the Works Committee power to pipe the worst crossings in the worst streets intersecting Beach Road; and to endeavour to prevent the accumulation of storm - water at the other crossings.

The Lighting Committee reported that nothing definite had been dono in connection with the erection of lights on Tuarangi and Suffolk streets and Trevor's Road.
