(Per Press Association.)
WELLINGTON, April 29. At the Magistrate's Court, James Newberry was charged with the attempted murder of Mrs Cooper and her sister, Miss Skjoth. He was committed for trial.
The evidence was that he was engaged to Mrs Cooper at one time, but it was broken off. During'the night of April 8 Newberry got into her house and assaulted both the. women with an iron bar.
The medical evidence was that Mrs Cooper was the more seriously injured of the two. Such a weapon was just as likely to kill as injure. Newberry, had been severely wounded .at the front and had been- in hospital practically all the time since he returned.
