ALSACE VAUDEVILLE STARS
In spite of the inclement weather last evening, the Theatre Royal was well filled to welcome the Alsace Vaudeville stars on their return visit to Ashburton. The personnel of the company was considerably changed on this occasion, but the standard of the entertainment was as high as ever, .nearly all the performers being recalled before being allowed to leave the stage. The head-liner was Meg, the Mighty Atom, and this tiny lot was well up to all the claims made for her. The Campbell Boys made a great impression with concertina music. They showed plainly what could be got out of this humble instrument, what excellent interpretations of music could be obtained, and finally convinced their audience that the concertina was not to be taken lightly when in really 1 skilled hands. Louis Alsace gave some remarkable items on the violin and 'cello, and the tone effects from the Alsacephone were quite unique. Eileen Barnsley, a gifted dramatic soprano; and Wendy and Alphonse, purveyors, of snappy comedy sketches, completed a strong company, which gave an excellent night's entertainment.
