It is stated by the departmental foreman that'tlie railwaymen express tlie 'utinoi-.H. indignation at the report fi-Oni Rotorua that :U l fire box on the engine of the Royal train was tampered with. This engine is now in Auckland shed ready to run. What happened was tho falling down of a defective fire bar. The engine had been inspected and tlie man responsible would not be the man concerned in the strike, And the defect could easily have gone unnoticed. ©
GISBORNE, April 28. The northward railway ran as usual this morning, the local staff having received no advice regarding the strike.
TAUMARUNUI, April 28. Locomotive railway men stopped at midnight but completed the duties in hand. The station is -.heavily stocked with goods and thirty trucks of sheep and cattle.
