NATIONALISATION.
LABOUR LEADER'S WARNING
(Received January 22, 11.45 a.m.)
LONDON, January 19
Mr I*. Snowden, speaking at Glasgow, said that the experience of the war, period showed there was all the difference in the world between organising things and organising . .and controlling men. It was possible to organise inanimate machines efficiently, but men wtiva different. It would; be fatal to our success for any nationally-rowned industry to try to import a uniform system of management on the whole. The country did not wish to sec the mines and railways nationalised, if it meant management, by the; present Government. An efficient democratic system would be the management by a national joint board containing representatives of the community of workers, and district boards, the 0, latter, dealing with the righi\s~-fuid. grievances of the men. locally.
Lord Robert Cecil, delivering the Earl Grey memorial lecture, reviewed the evils of nationalisation, "which, he said, would tend to make the wages question a. political issue. He' advocated partnership between, labour and capital.
