CHRISTCKCRCH, January i. The body of George Shepherd Hawkins a returned soldier, who was drowned wisue bathing at Sunnier beach- on Monday last-, was recovered this, morning about 7 o'clock. Later. .It has boon ascertained that the victim was Norman Gillies, sou of Mr Hugh Gillies, "a. prominent Manawatu 'na-storalist. The deceased recently returned from the war. ' At,the inquest on Amy ICJizsi Harrinian,' witnesses testified that the deceased took pokon and then tried to drown herself'in a tank.
