The death is announced of Mrs Ella Wheeler Wilcox, poetess and author, at her home in. Newhaven, Connecticut. Five probationers who have taken their training at the Christchurch Karitane Baby Hospital sat for their examination and passed as Karitano ■ • nurses with credit. They were: Misses Alice Lough (Papanui), - Alice Old? (Linwood), Marjorio Parlane (Paimersron North), Beth Aitken (Methven), < and Doris Humphreys (Ashburton). '* A London cablegram received to-day announced the death of Mr Edward Wainwright, tho Yorkshire cricketer.
