Commodore F. C. Dreyer, C.8., C.8.E., the chief of Lho staff, served in pre-war days with Lord Jollicoe as his assistant <&t the end of his service as Director of Naval Ordnance at the Admiralty, . and as his flag commander afloat in- I'Jll and 1912. In 1913 lie commanded the light cruiser Amphion, and went from her in October of that year as flag captain of the Dreadnought battleship Orion until October, 1915. He then became Hag captain of .the fleet flagship >Iron Duke, which lie commanded in the battle of Jutland, and until Lord Jellicoe hauled down, his flag in November, 191 G. Captain Dreyer accompanied Lord Jollicoe to the Admiralty, and first- served in the newly-formed anti-submarine division of the Naval Staff, and then for 16 months as Director of Naval Ordnance. On the formation of a gunnery and torpedo division of the Naval Staff in June, 1918, Captain Dreyer was appointed-in charge of it as Director of Naval Artillery and Torpedo. He is a Companion, of the Bath (military and civil), a Companion of the British Empire Order (military), and has two Russian Orders, in addition to thei Legion, of Zoilour, Captain^, x^tt, t , he fa b ca^, ta:S $a 6 commands the New Zealand, r\Va& navigator officer of tlie fleet flagship Iron D'uko when war broko out; and on promotion -v captain in June, 1915, retained his post, the' old title "Master of the Fleet/ being revived. In this capacity, he took part in the battle of Jutland. Early in 1917 he took command of the modern light cruiser Caroline, in the fourth light cruiser squadron of the Grand Fleet, remaining in her until appointed to the New Zealand in January, 1919. He holds the .Russian Order of St. Anne and the Legion of Honour. Paymaster-Cap Lain H. H. Share, C.8., the secretary to Admiral Jellicoe, also served in pre-war days as his secretary in 1911 and 1912, *in the Atlantic and Home Fleets. He is wellknown in Australia, where he was secretary to Admiral' Sir Lewis-Beau-mont, Naval Com in ander-in-Chief, and private secretary to Admiral Sir Harry Rawson, and later to the GovernorGeneral,, Lord iS'orthcote. . On the outbreak of war he accompanied f/ord Jel'licqe to the Admiralty, and ivviis his naval assistant from December, 1916, to tlhe end of 1917. He is a Companion of the Bath (military), and has a Russian and a Japanese Order, in addition to the Legion of Honour, also the Egypt Medal, 1882, and Khedive's , Bronze Star.

Commander B. H. Ramsay, M.V.0., flag commander, qualified' as war staff officer in 1913. On the outbreak of war he was signal officer in the staff of Vice-Admira:l Sir D. Gamble," in H.M.S. Dreadnought, in the Grand Fleet. He commanded a monitor on the Belgian coast from spring of 1915 to spring of 1917. Promoted to commander in June, 1916/ he commanded a flotilla from the spring of 1917 onwards in the Dover patrol. Ho' then commanded a division of T.B.D.'s during the night attack blocking Ostend Harbour. He was awarded M.V.0., by the King after transporting him to France. He is also a Chevalier of tho Legion of Honour and officer of the Crown of Italy, and holds the. Belgian Croix do Guerre. ''" '

Commander H. 11. Sawbridge, antisubmarine officer, served in H.M.S. Emperor.of India until his promotion to commander in December, 1917. Ho was attached to the experimcrital and trials sections of the anti-submarine division of the naval staff until the conclusion of hostilities.

Lieutenant-Colonel X, 1). M. Robertson, D.F.C., Jtoyal Air Force, commanded H.M.S. liiviera (seaplane carrier) till the end of 1915. Ho then commanded aerial armament development and experimental squadron, It.N.A.S., Isle of Grain, and was later attached to tho aerial armament section, under the Ministry of Munitions. He then commanded the air station at Felixstowe.

Lieutenant-Commander 11. H. F. de Sal is, D.S.C., torpedo lieutenant of tho Victorious from tlie outbreak of the war till February. 1915, was attached to the Vernon mining staff from March to June, 1915, when he was appointed to the staff of the captain iii charge of mine layers, where he remained til'J July, J917. He then .commanded a division of six mine laying trawlers on the Belgian coast in the spring of 1910. He was awarded; the .D.S.C. in November, 1916, and bar in October, 1917. He was appointed to the Department of the director of. Torpedoes and M ining, Admiralty, in July, 19L7. He visited America I from. August to "December, 1917, to! assist experiments with a new mine, and has.been present and taken an! active part in the. laying of 10,000/ mines' on service from 12 different vessels.

Lieutenant L. V. Morgan, M.V.0., D.S.G., R.N., .flag lieutenant and sig-. nal officer, , served as 1 flag lieutenant and signal officer to Vice-Admiral Sir Reginald Bacon's and ,to 'Vice-Admiral Sir Roger Keys in the D'oveY Patrol Her took part in V the operations of blocking bofh ■• Zeebrugge and Qsteud, and was- awarded the D.S.C. lor hig part in the former',.operation. , Hg was awarded the M'iV.O. ,by the Iving'l in ■ December, • and holds the Belgium Oroix.de Guerre. Paymaster-Lieutenant Commander C. K. Lloyd, secretary to the Chief of. Stall', served;.- in H.M.S. Iron Duke, and assisted in the (ire control of that ship in the battle of Jutland, ICarly in 1917, ho joined the Queen Elizabeth when that ship became fleet ua'islrijh Subsequently he was appointed to H.M.S. Calliope, .flagship of a light cruiser squadron. „' .Commander Thomas P. Calvert, TI.N.. the executive officer of H.M.S. New Zealand, is also appointed ifor .submarine duties on the ..staff. He is a very experienced submarine officer, who served in H.M.S. Iron '.Duke during the war, until his promotion in June,. 1916, acting as: the commander in chief'.s adviser on technical submarine matters, as well as carrying out his ship duties. He was in charge of one of the Iron Duke's -turrets during the battle of Jutland. In the autumn of 1916 he took command of one of- the large and fas.t X class submarines attached, to the Gran<J Fleet.
