WANGANUI RIOT
OFFENDERS SENTENCED
WANGANUI, July 9. As a .sequel to Last night's disturbance, Maoris,. John Waldron, Temniia Taputoro, and R-apita Martene appeared -at the Magistrate's Court, to-day.' The two -former were charged with obstructing the police in the execution of their duty, and the last named with v using obscene language and resisting the police.
The accused were sentenced to two months' imprisonment cuu-h.
The three men are returned soldiers, and the Magistrate remarked that the uniform, or the returned soldier's badge, Avas not going to save them, or be a cloak for larriki'nism. It would be wrong to treat .such actions lightly. It would bring- the uniform into disgrace. When' wearing uniform, ■ men should behave like gentlemen, not like larrikins. There was too much of this sort of thing going on throughout the Dominion. The policy were not to be interfered with when doing their duty. ,
