WAR-TIME DUTIES.
LONDON, July 8. There was considerable opposition in the House of Commons to a proposal in the Finance Bill to continue until August, 1920, the war-time-duties imposed in 1915. Mr Austen Chamberlain agreed-to limit reimposition till May, 1920,^ when he would explain the fiscal policy. There was no intention now of raising a controversy as war-time conditions were still prevailing. A Labour demand for abolition of the teaduty, as bearing over-heayily on the poorer classes, ,was negatived.
