ST. ANDREW'S MEETING
A meeting of the congregation of S,t. Andrew's.Presbyterian Church was held last evening, Wdiscuss the question of union with the Methodist and Congregational Churches. There-was a .fail- attendance, and the Rev. G. Miller occupied the chair. Revs. A. S. Morrison (Rakaia) and G. K. Aitken (Methven), were present, as delegates, to ascertain the mind of tlie on the matter. Mr J. B. Borthwick proposed: That wo agree to the question of union being considered, provided that the basis of union is afterwards referred for tho consideration of the congregations.
This was seconded by Mr J. Lane
Mr W. F. Watte-1-s moved a-s an amendment: That tho time is not yet ripe for considering the question, and that tho vote should be. taken by a referendum of the whole congregation. —The amendment was seconded by Mr M. Bruce.
Considerable discussion took place and it was finally decided thab a vote of the congregation be taken on the question.
The majority of the speakers at the meeting.. wore decidedly against the union.
