CORRESPONDENCE.

A letter was received from Sir W. Froser, Minister of Public Works, stating that the item of £1700 (£2 for £1) for the erection of Blowing Point Bridge would be reinstated in next Estimates. —Received.

The Canterbury Education Board wrote stating that the Borough and County Councils would each be allowed a representative on the Technical School Board, and the matter of selection could be arranged between the two councils. —The chairman Btated that the council gave an annual grant of £50 to the school, and if the representation was to be curtailed tliey would have to reconsider the matter of the grant.—Cr. Gallagher said the council should enter a protest against the curtailment of representation.—Cr. Lill was selected the council's representative.

The A. and P. Association wrote asking the council to grant a chain wide roadway along the'southern boundary of the saleyards paddock from tho Main South Road, to be used as an entrance to tho show grounds.—Request granted. James Smith, junior clerk, tendered his resignation, having accepted another position.—Accepted. The Minister of Marine wrote stating that he had looked into the matter of County electors for Harbour Board elections being placed upon the same footing as those in other districts. He found that persons on the electors' roll of the local districts are the persons who had the right to vote, and that, therefore, an alteration of the Harbours Act would be necessary to make it legal to use the parliamentary roll. —It was decided to ask Messrs Nosworthy and Dickie, M.'sP., to keep I this matter in view.

Mr R. B. Neill, Mount Somers, wrote asking permission to utilise water .from the Stour to drive electric plant 'which he proposed to install. —The Engineer reported that provision would bo required to be made for leading the water under the roadline and County reserve which gives access to the stock bridge, and Mr Neill be responsible for any encroachment of the river which may be caused by deflecting the water on to the point of intake. —Granted, subject to the satisfaction of the Engineer.

The Society of Hearth of Women and Children wrote asking for a donation, and pointing out that the society was very short of funds at present, having only sufficient to carry on for a month. Last year the council voted £20, and it was honed this amount would be increased.—lt was decided to give a grant of £20. Mr A. Christie, traffic inspector, reported that he desired to draw tho council's attention, before making any alteration in the ©resent by-laws regulating motor traffic on the Ashburton Traffic Bridge, that an excessive speed would no doubt lead to accidents. \n accident might easily happen where the ramp joins the bridge. In order to climp the* incline it is necessary to travel at a fair rate of speed. He considered 15 miles an hour would be a safe speed across the bridge.—Received.
