STRIKES IN FRANCE
WIDESPREAD UNREST,
(Per Press Association— Coryri'-'ht:)
'PARIS, June 4. The Labour upheaval is based mainly on the dearness of living. TSree hundred and fifty thousand -workers -have struck in the Paris region, paralysing traffic. The men claim a minimum ot 450 francs monthly, with a "pension at the agdr^ forty-five. Fifteen thousand arsenal'workers at Puteaux, also miners in Pas de Calais, have struck. Demagogic orators are urging the men to extend the agitation to political questions, to protest against diplomatic or military intervention in Russia and Hungary, and to demand immediate demobilisation. M. Cachlin, Socialist Deputy, declares that underlying the financial cause of the strike is the determination of Labour to secure a definite share in the management of the great business interests of the country; further that the French bourgeoisie has been combating the working classes. Peasant republics were striving tor existence in Europe, but organised Labour meant to secure the direction ot the home and foreign affairs of France.
