MEETINGS.
ANAMA ROAD BOARD.
A meetiim ot" the Anama Road Board was held at Hckeao on Monday. Present:' Messrs W. Nosworthy, M.P. (chairman), W. E. Jones, and W. G. Gallacher. .
.The clerk was instructed to inform the "Ashburton County Council that if it will open a short length (about five chains)..of road through Res. 2567 the board will fence it. :
Mr J. D. Murdoch aLiplied for leave to close a water-raco and put in ■ two pipe culverts on Moorhouso Road.— Re.solved to inform Mr Murdoch that the board has no objection to the alteration if carried out in terms of the letter of application.
.The clerk reported that, on the whole, the srader 'had done good work at a reasonable price, especially as some of 'the work was practically. re-formingv The roads had been left too long, and in a rough country the loosened stones r*i the hard bottom made the work rousch, and the twitch and largest stones bad to bo cleared from the crown. This had been done except on nart of Moorhousi' Road and South Hinds Road near the boundary. "' The former had beon Teit by request; of residents, and the latter would be improved as soon a.s possible.—lt was resolved that the cocksfoot and large clones bo removal from Moorhouse T?oad also.
Pipos wore ordered to be obtained for two culvorts—one to prevent scour on the long rutting, and another to open a course for storm water across " The Brothers" Road.
Mr H. Harper applied to have the ,Westerfield road improved.—The clerk "\vas i instructed to reply that the road will'be metalled when funds are.avail-' i able. He was also instructed to apply i" to the County Council for 20ft of pipes each for four water races, one at L. Frost's, one on Moorhouse Road by Manse, another towards G. If. So Well's ! and another between the Manse corner and Toner's crossing. '. It was resolved to join the Canterbury Progress League for one year, and the chairman was appointed to attend the first meeting of the League Council, arid also to represent the Board; oh the Ashburton branch of the 'League. ■ • The chairman was also appointed the Board's delegate.-to attend a public meeting fo be convened by the Mayor of •Ashburton for consideration of iPeace celebration proposals.' 'Alterations, on .the roll, of properties from yV. E. Jones'to Jho. Brown and :JiicL Burgess to" A. Painter were ordered to be made. '
Correspondence from the district telegraph engineer was received stating that trees on a reserve at Cavendish were obstructing telephone wires. —The clerk stated he had referred the officer to.4jho County Council, which owned the reserve! "The following correspondence was received:—-From Public .Works Department in reference to day wages on State-aided works; the. Sheep-owners' Union in reference to clearing snow from roads; Ashburton County Council re engine traffic; Department of Labour re half holiday, Minister of Internal Affairs re Peace celebrations; Ashburton'County Council, covering resolutions in reference to the holding of training camps, and the Department of Internal Affairs in connection with a town-planning scheme.
The acceptance of a tender for cocksfoot was approved. The monthly and annual accounts for boundary works,, etc., amounting to-£l6B, were passed.
