..Mr Harry Rands, M.A.^ arrived by the Moeraki from Sydney last week and, went south to take his former position as science master at Waitaki College. Mr Rands has been over two years in England doing munition work. He is a brother of the late Rev. F. Rands (formerly of Ashburton), chaplain to I the Forces, who succumbed to influenzaon the Rhine some daysi ago.
The. Canterbury Education Board has decided to recommend to the Minister of Education the appointment oPMr J E. Purchase. M.A., as principal of the Christehurch Training College; in succession to the late Mr T. S. Foster, M.A. Mr Purchase, who is 44 yean? of age. has been assistant lecturer at the Training College since May, 1915, and acting-lecturer in education'since February 1, 1918. He started- his career ] at' a teacher at Ashburton, where he was a pupil teacher from 1891 to 1895, when he became a student at' the ~Nor'mal School, as the Training College wa» formerly designated. He was* master at Riverside in 1896, and in the same year was assistant-master at Ashborton for a few months, after which he resumed his position at the Riverside School. In 1899 he was appointed m£ ster of tne Groenstreet School, in 1901 first assistant^master at Ashburtan. in 1909 first assistant-master at. Richmond. ,\vhoro he remained till h^ took up .-the position of' assistant-lee-lurer at the Training College in 10]5.
