MR. ASQUITH DEFEATED

The elections have resulted, in au overwhelming majority for the Coalitionists.

!Mr. Asquith was beaten at East Fife, after representing the constituency for thirty-two years. Others defeated are Sir John Simon, My. ' Ramsay Mac Donald, Mr. Herbert Samuel, Airs. Pankhurst, Mr. .Philip Snowden and Mr.> Arthur Henderson.

Those elected include, Mr. Lloyd George, Sir E. Goddes and Sir. Albert Stanley

Most oi; fcho women candidates have been defeated.

Sinn Fein captured the majority of the Nationalist seats.

A progress report showed that Coalitionists had been elected for 127 seats. Liberals for 56, Labour for 23 and-Na-tionalists 1. Later figures read:—;

Coalition ... ... '334 Oppositionists. ... 116 LONDON, Dec. 28. Coalitionists at 'Blackburn• beat Philip'Snowden by 16,000. For. the Barnard Castle Division of Durham the .voting was:—

.Others elected are:—A. H. Illingworth, C. W. B.owerman, Will Thorne, W. H. Long, H'avelock , Wilson, E. Shortt, Sir j. Norton-Griffiths, iPemberton Billing, J. Hodge, Lord Robert Cecil,- H. T. Bottomley, F. E. Smith, E. S. Montagu, and E. H. Young. The following have been defeated:— W. C. Anderson, J. M. Robertson, It. I.;. ..Outhwaite and Walter Runciman.
