Mr John Mackintosh, principal of die totfee-making firm of that name, (says a London paper of March 2), addressing the members of tlie Halifax Business CJu b on the value of advertising, said he t had often been asked why ho spent so much on advertising, aa if he spent less in that way the cost of production could be greatly reduced. Those critics, he said, did not know what they were talking about. Advertising was not paid for in that way, but rather by the creation' of demand and larger ontput. A great development was yet possible in export business, and if an article like toffee could be exported to 48 different countries by one firm, he thought scarcely anyone in business need despair, of, doing export trade. j
