METHVEN

A mooting of the Mount Hutt District Temporary Committee was hela on Tuesday evening in the itoad Jioaru oilico. The chairman ot" the Mount Mutt Road Board (Mr W. W. Goodwin) presided, and there were present : Messrs Morgan,. Sparrow, Smith, Dart, Invin, Aitken, Pawson, and McDonald. Tiio secretary reported that several donations had been received in connection with ; suffering caused by the epidemic, the amount totalling £56 2s 6d.

The- Rev. G. K. Aitken was appointed treasurer.

A lengthy discussion followed on the management of the temporary hospital by the Health authorities, A good deal of criticism was indulged in, and while it was"jfelt that the local people had not received the skilled assistance that .should .have been given by the authorities,, the committee contented itself with, passing the fbllowiiig resolution : —" That the chairman and the Rev. G. K. .Ai'tken.be appointed a subcommittee t0... confer with the authorities wit-h. regard' to.the future' management of the hospital and' the early closing of it;."'

; The committee then Went into the position of voluntary workers who had contracted . influenza while in the execution of their duty, and" it way decided that the committee make inauiries into the expenses incurved' by those persons and' see that they are' not out of pocket in connection with the matter. The sub-committee was also instructed to confer with the authorities on this point.

The committee expressed their appreciation of the, splendid servicel! rendered to the district by voluntary workers, and it was resolved that later on stem be taken to recognise thr> 'work done.
