ANNUAL MEETING:

•MELBOURNE, December 13. The "annual meeting' of tho Australasian Temperance and General Mutual Life Assurance. Society, Ltd., .was held toda.y. Tho chairman, Mr Henry Meeks, reported continued expansion of th© society in ali departments. New business written amounted to ■96,977. policies, assuring £4,246,349, an increase of £744,918 over tho previous yeax. This Large volume of business was procured at a satisfactory expense rate. The total yearly income has increased by £119,720, snd now stands at £891,249. In, the industrial department the ['premium' increase was £79,000, mak- ■ ing the- total premium income £479,691. The increase in this department is again the largest ever made by any one society, in Austral lasia. for a single yoar. Assets amount to £3,180,377, and the chairman drew the attention of policy-holder's to tho satisfactory nature' of tho society's investments. The ra.to of interest earned /was £4 19s 9d pei": cent." ' ' ' . Payments to 'policy-holders amoiuitcti to £393,572.
Death claims in ordinary departments, amounting to £67,237, were aIL most equal:;to tho total for the four pre-war years' claims. -. . The surplus was £85,534, of which £66,322' was distributed. Tho society liae decided to suspend payment of.war loading from tho date of the signing of the armistice, and to refund alf complete fi# quarters' war loading overpaid at that date, subject to tho right of the society to recharge war loading should hostilities be resumed durmg tbe year. Sineo the closing of accounts the society has hi vested tho sum of £820,000 in war loam. 12 231
