THE WHEAT QUESTION.

To the Editor, "Guardian." Sir, —As your remarks in your leader of March 27 have been revived by "Interested," and as he is ao callous as to approve of your remarks, I feel I must raise a strong protest against it. Your remarks were uncalled for, unkind, in fact were offensive. How is it, you and your champion, who has not the courage to sign his name, wishes to hash up the wheat question with the sufferings of our soldiers. Is it because you wish to catch the ear of the crowdl? Now, sir, I cannot help but think that those farmers who discussed the wheat question on the occasion you refer to, had just as tender feelings for our soldiers as either you or "Interested" had. One of them has a son who passed tli rough Gallipoli, and since leaving there, has. been and is now. defending your interest and mine in France. Two others have each sons at the front defending your interest and mine, and in adtlitioti to that each of the two fathers •had sons who have made supreme sacrifice. If you and "Interested" wish to discuss the wheat question, do it on its own merits and not hash it up: with things which are so sacred. You are entitled to your opinion as I am to mine, but nothing is x to be gained by bringing in a side-issue, without it is to catch the ear of the crowd: The remark made by "Interested" about farmers getting rich\out of war profits, only shows how litule he knows he is writing about. No wonder he hides 'behind a norn de plume. S. S. CHAPMAN.
