VIGOROUS COUNTER-ATTACK
LONDON, April (5. . A French communique says:—The Germans have not renewed their attacks to-day. . We vigorously counterattacked north of Montdidier, -iraprov-, ing our positions at several points,' notably, in the region of Mailly-Raine-val and at Gantigny, of which We hold the northern and western outskirts. j There was violent' reciprocal artillery i fire between Lassignay and Noyon. We | gained ground this afternoon north of \Mont Renaud. Twenty-three tons of bombs were I dropped on enemy cantonments ' and j railway stations. Fires were observed at railway stations at Laon and St. Queiitin. Five enemy aeroplanes were brought down. LONDON, April 6. A. French communique says:—-The nighfc was marked by a violent bombardment north and south of the Avre,. especially in the region of Monchcl, but there was no infantry fighting.' On the right bank of the Meuse and at Apremont Wood-the artillery duel was sometimes very lively,-:
