MERCHANTS' APPEAL. (Received Feb. 5, 11.45 a.m.) AMSTERDAM, Feb. *. : IVhe. German Union of South Sea firms, has addressed a memorandum• to tie Reichstag declaring .that if in any peace agreement, the German Governaien.consents to withdraw her Hag from the. Pacific Ocean, German world activity would be irreparably .restricted. Germany must possess her own stations'and trade routes to prevent her enemies' blockade retaining its effectiveness after the war. The possession thereof involves German prestige, politically and economically, and also Germany's industry and shipping. The memorandum demands the retention of the former spheres of activity 00 the othor side of the globe, declaring that these cannot be abandoned withisut immeasurable injury to German iiatirmaj economies.
