V.M.C.A. APPEAL.
DISTRICTS ALLOTTED
A meeting of the district executive in connection with the V.M.C.A. Dominion appeal for £100,000 for trench comforts, was held in the Council Chambers last evening, the Mayor, Mr R. Galbraith, presiding. ' I Mr D. P. Gar rick, with Mr J. Kildo pas assistant, was appointed secretary. Messrs John Watson and William Oakley furnished a list of country centres for the holding of public meetings, namely, Winchinore, Wakanui, (to include Seaview and Riverside), Seaficld, Waterton (to include Flemington, Ashton and Longbeach), Willowby, Eiffelton, Lowcliff (to include Coldstream), Hinds, Lismore, Westeriield, Tinwald, Greenstreet and Dro^ more (to include Newlands and Fairfield). The centres suggested were considered suitable, and the secretary . was instructed to communicate with the leading residents in the places stated, asking them to arrange for public meetings in connection with the movement. " '■;■.' Mr Ferriman reported that, several I large donations,•> in addition to what he already had in view, were promised. . ...•,..■■ The secretary of the Christchureh branc hof the V.M.C.A. (Mr Mason) wired congratulating the executive on the enthusiasm displayed at the commencement of the campaign. He intimated that Mr A. Kaye, of. Christchurch, was prepared to visit Ashburton and deliver an ! address at a public meeting in support of the appeal.
