COUNTER-ATTACKS FAIL.

'" Correspondents jit the front state that, 'despite a thick mist and the strengthened machine-gun defences we re-captured the -ruins of the brewery adjoining Poelcapelle, and, after heavy iighting, made progress for some hundreds of yards near Houthulst Forest, and northward of Poelcapelle. A counter-attack involved the enemy in heavy losses. A later message records another fierce counter-attack along the railway The visibility has improved, enabling our gunners to exact a severe toll from the enemy.
