INQUEST ON THE VICTIM.
THAMES, July 24. The adjourned inquest into thedeath of Irene Quinn, the little girl who was drowned at Kerikeri, near Kapu, on July 19, and in connectionwith whose death two small boys, one M a Maori; have been charged with mur^A der, was continued to-day. Dr. Derrick stated that he had examined the body, and was convinced that death was due to drowning. The evidence of various witnesses showed that the little girl was seen coming home from school with a Maori boy,-Richard Reihana, and a.European boy, Edward Claude Gibbons. They were;seen going• -to th© bank of the Kerikeri Creek, and afterwards both boys were seen going home alone. The girl's clothes were found on the bank, and the naked body was recovered next day. It, was proved j that the little girl, who was just six. years of age, • could not undress herself. :
The boy Gibbons• made a statement to the effect that Reihana undressed ;the girl and put her in the water. Reihana's statement was that the girl was on the bank of .'the creek naked when he saw her, and she fell in. v The verdict wiH be given to-morrow.
