Rev. Frank Oldriovo, who hab been in chnryo ol the local Baptist Church for over two years, intimated to the congregation yesterday that ho had decided to relinquish the pastorate at, the end of August. Mr Oldrieve, who is a keen missionary enthusiast, will probably take up temporary organising work for tho Mission to Lepers, of which body ho has been South Island honorary secretary for somo years.

Yesterday Mr William Smith, an inmate of the Tuarangi Old Men's Home, passed away, at the age of 69. The late. Mr Smith was the first police constable in Ashburton, and preserved law and order in the good old days. He wa,s also engaged in farming pursuits, and was for some time proprietor of livery and bait stables at the lower end of the town.
