THE WAYBACKS.
Of all tho many clever Australian writers none has been so widely read or is 'more popular than Henry Fletcher, author of the celebrated " Wayback" stories, and countless New Zealanders have as intimate, friends Dads, Rod Harrys, Dnn Robins, and other quaint figures drawn in those delightful series. These fascinating characters are now being portrayed in the flesh a-nd blood through tho enterprise of Mr Philip Lytton, who has succeeded to an admirable degree in constructing around them an entertaining farcical comedyi drama. Tho screamingly-funny experi- ; onces of the Waybacks in Sydnoy, and the sharp contrasts drawn betwoen the unsophisticated farmers and tho city [ folk amidst whom they are temporarily | placed, stamps this play as one of high. ! merit. The recent Auckland and ' Dunedin seasons amply confirmed the signal Australian success of "this rural comedy. Ashburton will bo visited on Saturday next, January 13, when one performance only will bo given at tho ■ Theatre' Royal.
