The torrential rainfall which was responsible for the slip on the Main Trunk Line ceased to-day,, the total registered during the past two days being. G.22in. Minor da ma-go has been done in the city and suburbs, while in the country low-lying areas have been flooded.

The flood waters of the Waimuku district nearly proved a death-trap for three men—C. Miller, A. Humphreys, and J. Fletcher, of Auekln-ml. Last evening, when returning to the city in a spring cart, after successfully negotiating'several, -flooded portions of-the road, they drove into a dip in the road, which was covered 'wi'tli \;w;u : er to a depth rtf 12ft. The horses were'drown-1 ed, and the men were swept out of the cart into tlie water, where, after some struggling, they succeeded in grasping the tops of some titreo, and in that position they were rescued as a result of their cries for help by two residents of tho district.
