TO-DAY'S NEWS.

THE WESTERN THEATRE. THE FIGHT FOR MORT HOMME. SIXTEEN GERMAN ATTACKS. GERMANS LOSE 15,000 MEN. (Received May 30, 10.55 a.m.) LONDON, May 29. The "Daily News" Paris correspondent states that / the Crown Prince manifestly wanted to settle Mort Homme once for all, hence the importance of the assaxilt on Cumieres. Though the village is in a valley, and is not important, an advance from there would have threatened the eastern slopes of Mort Homme,, and perhaps turned the second French line at Chattancourt. . Four divisions were employed 6n : the west bank from Sunday to Tuesday, and simultaneously three divisions on the right bank.

Columns were hurled cast and west of Mort HommOj one after another, and all were cut up by curtain and machine gun fire.

Sixteen attacks were made on Monday between Avocourt Wood and the rivor, 50,000 assaulting Mort Homme and Hill 305, resulting in useless butchery.

Tho French never wavered, and the Germans lost 15,000.
