ASHBURTON STOCK MARKET.

.^hv-ing to the rain there was only a ■ moderate attendance at the weekly stock sale held at the Ashburton yards to-day. The entry of sheep only totalled 2906, as against 5697 at the Tinwald yards last week. The yarding Tinwald yards last week. The yardisg of fat sheep totalled 1313, as against 1740 last week, and included 272 ewes, 183 wethers, and 858 lambs. The total last week was 909 ewes, 100 wethers, and 731 lambs. There was a great \ falling-off in fat ewes, and the quality j of several lines was little. better than j forward stores, and these were passed at 13s 9d. There was a good demand for prime quality ewes, and prices were very firm and reached 28s, the balance \ making from los to 25s 6d., Of the ' yarding of wethers, a- "line of 111 was j -, passed at 23s 1 4d, the balance making \ 23s to 26s Id. One extra prime line ' made 345. There was good competition for lambs, and. prices wore very firm. j An extra prime lot owned by Mr! George Lamb realised 28s. the balance j selling at from 19s-t0.23s 7d. The following range of prices was obtained:. —:. Prime, butcher's ewes 24s 6d to 25s 6d, . medium weights 16s 9d to 18s 6d, h'ght weights 15s to 15s 6d, prime butcher'B wethers 23s :6d to 26s Id, others 19s, prinie freezing lambs 19s to 23s 7d, extra heavy 28s. The yarding of store sheep totalled' 1593, as against 3957 last week at the Tinwald yards, and included 154 hoggets, the balance being ewes. There was very little demand. and of the yarding 1063 wore passed at auction. A line of two-tooth station ewes in lamb was passed at 24s 9d. Prices were: — Sheep.
