ENTERTAINMENTS.

JACK JOHNSON V. JESS WILLARD.

The picture showing this big event is to be screened to-night at His Majesty's Theatre. When this.6ooo-foot lilm was being screened in Wellington recently, the big Town Hall was not nearly big enough to hold the crowds who turned out to sec it, and there was almost a riot when the management had to turn hundreds away. The season was extended in Wellington, but as the dates are booked in other towns well ahead it can only be shown one night in Ashburton. The picture, it is claimed, is a particularly clear one, and no incident of this great fight is missed by tho numerous cinematographers placed all round the ring. You see clearly every incident of this 2G-round fight—Jack Johnson's straight lefts, his clever footwork, his terrible right "swings," blows that would send almost any man to sleep for 10 minutes, being taken by the big cowboy as though it was a schoolboy fight. If the fight' was for tho usual 20 _ rounds, Johrfson must have won on points, but the perfect physique of the giant Texan and his wonderful strength wore down his clever opponent so much that, after round 20, Willard's attack was so vigorous that the big negro was palpably tiring, and the end came in a straight hard punch, which sent the seven-years champion down to the boards. The box plan is now open at Tho Bristol.
