FEW MONTHS

MELBOURNE, November 24

Following a Cabinet meeting, the Hon. W. M. Hughes, after a very careful consideration of the present outlook, said that it had been decided to raise an additional 50,000 men for active service, available within-the next few months. They would form new units, and would be independent of the quota of 9500 monthly necessary for the reinforcements. He added that the principle of voluntary enlistment would be adhered to, and he promised at an early opportunityto disclose the reasons the Government had for taking' this important step in assisting the Allies to bring the war to a successful conclusion.
