Bailey, of London, in a letter •dated August 19,' says: —"Since my b.ist letter, we have had a visit from the much-vaunted Zeppelins. One actually' flow directly over this quarter of the city, but, I am thankful to relate, that none of their bombs dropped Qearbr than n mile from our location. There is no denying the fact that they did awful damage where they did strike, and we plainly saw the reflections of the explosions playing on the tiky as thfi .bombs were dropped.. The Zeppelins sailed over the City at about LI p.m., and, of course, caught everything going on as usual. The theatres, trams, etc., wort)-packed with people, rvnd it is a miracle that not more' wrc 'Killed. The big guns in Green Park awakened ..those of us who were sleepiag. ■ We-'■''dressed■'hurriedly, find ran into Park lane to see the Zeppelin., The searchlights had located it, and. the gunners were bursting their shells 1 all-around'it. Apart from the deadly, earnest of tho encounter, one might have 'thought it a brilliant display' of r;reworl«. I ani .sorry to say that none of the Zeppelins were brought down. '.Ihey did not seo.m to alavrn so mucli excite Londoners by this visit, and. cospite the tti>nmm boast to bombard us thuswis^ for 40 days and 40 nigltts until Vft are pulverised.-, wo simply plirug onr-■fthoulders and leave the matter to Admiral Sir Percy Scott. who is now at th'o head ,of' London's ' Air-raid Defence.' "
