Sir, —I was present at the recruiting meeting last night and was much impressed by the eloquent speeches of the Ho,n. Dr. McNab and Mr Poole. The position is undoubtedly critical and requires prompt and extensive action. 1 am too old (75) to render personal service and am not in a position to give ; much financial help.- I am willing, ['however, to make the following offer: ' As vendor and promoter of the Canter- \ bury Petroleum Prospecting Co., Ltd., 11 am entitled ,to 5000 fully paid-up (shares in the company. These shares cannot be transferred until payable oil is obtained. I will give 250 shares in + 10 lots of 25>ach to-10 men enlisting in Ashbivrton\ County I'before December 1 proximo, subject to the above proviso on the following conditions:—l. I Application to be made previous to . December 1, and to be considered acjcording to date and time of applicaVtion. 2 The applicant' to be accepted by the military authorities, and to leave New Zealand as a member ofsome future contingent. 3. That the applicant's name' be registered with the secretary of the. company, such rea;is-; tration to.be endorsed by me. 4.
