APPEAL BY THE MINISTER.
The Minister for Internal Affairs (the Hon. G. W. Russell) forwarded to the "Guardian " office to-day the following statement: — "The train containing the returned sick and wounded soldiers per Tofua will arrive at Ashburton at 6.42 p.m. "I hope the residents will, in the few minutes at their disposal, accord the returned soldiers a cordial welcome, as the train will contain not only the South Island men, but the whole of the North Island men."
The Acting-Mayor \ (Mr F. Z. ,D. Ferriman) has suggested to the business people of the town , who have flag-poles that they should fly their flags during thb reception* ceremony this evening. ..,".':.■.
