APPEAL BY THE MINISTER.

The Minister for Internal Affairs (the Hon. G. W. Russell) forwarded to the "Guardian " office to-day the following statement: — "The train containing the returned sick and wounded soldiers per Tofua will arrive at Ashburton at 6.42 p.m. "I hope the residents will, in the few minutes at their disposal, accord the returned soldiers a cordial welcome, as the train will contain not only the South Island men, but the whole of the North Island men."
