LETTER FROM GENERAL GODLEY. "WOEFULLY DEPLETED IN - NUMBERS." WELLINGTON, October 20. General Godley writes to Colonel Hughes praising the gallantry of the troops, and says:—" It is impossible to find in military history anything finer than the night march of the Wellington Mounted Rifles through desperate, scrub-covered country, on August 6, or the assault by the Wellington;- Infantry Battalion /on Bair lieiglits. oh the niorhmg'.'-\.6f August S." •:■ General Godley adds:-—"We are woefully depleted, in numbers at present, the infantry brigade being only 1200 instead of 4000, and the mounted 400 instead of 2000."
