(Receivod October-22, L-1.35 a.m.) ' ' LONDON, October 21. , Thore wits a great lied Cross appeal on London on the occasion of Trafalgar Day. Many thousands of lady collectors participated. Though the' •\\oathor was showery, Trainlgar Square presented a memorable .scene. The Nelson Column ba&e was &mothoicd with wreaths from the pedestal between the lions. . The voices of recruiters floated over the donso crowds/, and at intervals tlie peoplo were thrilled by the clear notes of a trumpeter playing " The Death of Nelson."
Tho service, afc St. Martin's in the Fields was impressive by its solemnity and simplicity, and the Bishop's impasvsioned appeal and his denunciation of Miss Cavell's murderers deeply stirred the congregation. Many Red Cross collectors were on 'duty at the early markets at 3.30 a.m.' The collections by Australians in the | Strand, from the sale of flags and kangaroo souvenirs, wjll be devoted to the needs' of soldiers from the Dardanelles. Among the collectors were Lady Mac- [ Bride, Lady Robinson, Lady NewtonjMooro, and Madame-Ada Crossley.
