MAITLAND MINERS.

THREATEN TO STRIKE. (Received October 19, 9.25 a.m.) SYDNEY, October 19. The Mai eland miners, at a meeting, decided to givo 14 days' notice of their intention to strike. Tho men contend that if tho price of coal is raised to 12s per ton they should be granted an increase of 6d in the hewing rate, instead of 3d. For years the lw/ yin&. rate has been reckoned on a 7 asis, though coal has been actually selling at 11s per ton. The men claim that they have long been underpaid, and that the increase to 12s is equivalent to a 2s rise.
