The Baptist Union to-day carried unanimously a resolution protesting against the legalisation of lotteries for patriotic purposes. The Ilev. J. Howard Lawrence was admitted as a member of the\union.' ' I It was resolved to hold a srlf-denial [ week yearly in aid of the home and ' foreign missions. The treasurer's r?tinititos »for the ensuing year showed receipts £1292, and expenditure £862, exclusive of a special grant of £100 For Timaru. On the motion of the Rev. J. J. North, it was resolved —"That the • Baptist Dnion of Now Zealand endorses the demand of the Catholic (Federation, that a censor '■ of films 1 should ■'be appointed. The union be- ) lieves that the portrayal of sexual deI pravity and crime is especially dangert ous to the nation. , Tho union also { believes that the censorship should be based on the broadest moral considerations."
