IiAND TAXES TO MEET DEFICIT

hi the Amenably the State Treasurer, 'the Hon. W. H. Barnes, delivered the Budget. It was stated that the reveuuw for the year was £7,202,658, which was £300,000 above the estimate, and 4he expenditure was £7,199,399, which was £298,000 abovo the estimate. The estimate of revenue for the curront year was £7,213,756, and the expenditure, including interest on public debts, £7,683,419. The Treasurer referred to tho severe effects of the drought and the dislocation caused by the war. He proposed to meet the shortage of income by (and taxes, which would convert the anticipated deficit to a surplus of £4f»00. « ■ ,
