DISPOSAL OF CRAIGtEBURN CLYDESDALE STUD. , LARGE ATTENDANCE: SPIRITED BIDDING. The feature of the clearing sale con-, chicted aY AVaterton yesterday by the Ashburton branch of the New Zealand Farmers' Co-operative Association, Ltd., was the disposal of the Craigieburn Clydesdale Stud, on behalf of the owner, Mr John McLauclilan. The stud is a well-known onej and Mr Mclauchlan's reputation a,s a careful breeder is known all over the Dominion. There was a large attendance, bidding was spirited, and, taken all round, the sale was,a very satisfactory one. The Craigieburn Clydesdale stud was founded by Mr W. McLauchlan, about 50 years' ago, by the purchase of a pedigree mare from Mr Tod, of Lincoln. By judicious breeding and using only the best sires, the"stud, received a sound foundation. The stud passed to Mr McLauchlan's son, the present owner, who has continued to act on the same, lines as his father. Mr McLauchlan has, in building up the stud, used only the best imported and colonialbred, sires; among which may be mentioned the' well-known Premier , Pride, Black Douglas, Sir Melton, Meadow Bank Prince, Baron Bold, and; others. Mr MeLauchlan has, exhibited at x the Ashburton, Christchurch, Timaru, arid Leeston Shows, meeting the leading breeders of the South Island, with a fair measure" of success.-: The prizes taken, in addition ■to a large number of firsts and seconds, include a Champion Ribbon with his brood mare Craigieburn Princess, P.C. at Leeston and, Timaru in 1.913; also Reserve Champion at Ashburton (twice), in 1911 and 1912; Champion Ribbon'with Royal Premier at Ashburton.
