NEWS AND NOTES. (From Our Own Correspondent.) ANAMA., ■ The celebration of the anniversary of the Anairia Sunday School was held in the schoolroom last Friday evening, and was well attended. The Rev. W. E. Sleep was in the chair, and gave a short address to the scholars. The annual report showed that; the year had been one of steady, faithful work, and that the school and teaching staff had felt the loss of Mr L. G. Greenslade, who had departed for the front. The treasurer's report showed that the finances were on a sound basis. 'The following scholars contributed items:— Pianoforte solo, May P/awson.; action songs, scholars;, recitations, j Beryl Richardson, Doris Jones, -Jack O'Callaghan, Charlie Melyer;, and Frank Pawson; dialogue,"'scholars. Sister Isabel Sinclair>;bf->the South Island Methodist Orphanage; gave an address on her experiences among the [Orphanage children. A book was presented 'to each scholar as a reward, Roy Jones and Doris Jones winning the attendance prizes. . Mr G. E. Elliott proposed, and Mr W. Bennett seconded, a vote of thanks to the self-sacrificing work of the teachers during th-e year, i At the/ close a bountiful supply of refreshments was handed round.
The anniversary services were held on Sunday. The Rev. W. E: Sleep preached in the afternoon, and rrave an object-lesson on sin and its effects. Sister Isabel took the evening service, and fjpoke of the work in. the Orphanage. Special hymns were sung for the occasion. Miss Groenslade presided at the organ at all the services.
