BELGIAN RELIEF.
APPRECIATION OF COLONIAL , HELP. LONDON, October 12. The Lord Mayor, speaking on behalf of the National Committee of Relief in Belgium, said he desired to express their deep admiration of the splendid response of tho people of Australia and New; Zealand to the Belgian Fund. The 1 Empire* Fund had reached £100,000,000, Australia giving £504,719 and New Zealand £221,314, which had been contributed in five and a half months. He earnestly hoped that, in view of the increased destitution, the efforts would be continued. LONDON, October 13. At a meeting at the Mansion House to appeal for sympathy and help for the Belgians, Lord Curzon said he had seen the devastation in Belgium, which was the greatest crime in history. If we won the war he hoped every penny of the indemnity would be given to Belgium. Mr Will Crooks, M.P., declared that soon:afterthe war began 800 Belgian women ,Jiad been taken to a German base and had: not since been heard of.
