THE FALLEN AND WOUNDED.
Mr A. E. Aldridge, of Tinwald, has received word that his son, LanceCorporal Benjamin Aldridge, who arrived in Wellington by the Moeraki, is proceeding south by to-night's ferry steamer, and will arrive here tomorrow morning.
At- the annual meeting of the Ashburtou Lawn Tennis Club last evening it was resolved to send letters of condolence to the relatives of Lieutenant Anthony Wilding and Sergeant A. E. Mortimore in tho sad loss they had sustained. As is well known, the former was- killed in. France, whilst the latter (a committeeman of the club) fell in one of the actions at the Dardanelles.
Mrs P. Maggin, of Moore Street, Ashburton,' has received word that her brother, Sergeant Michael McCarthy, who was recently -,' reported wounded, has been ordered to return to New Zealand owing to a breakdown-after a further three week's spell in the trenches. He is expected back by the Willochra, which arrives at Duriedin about October 30. Sergeant McCarthy joined the Main Expeditionary Force .from Dunedin.
