These stations were built, and cost tho German Government £2.000,----000. "This country declared war on Germany at L 2 o'clock midnight on "August '4, J')l4. At 5 o'clock in the afternoon or August 4 Germany sent out a message to all its wireless stations, which passed that" message on from one to another,, and such station .sont it out to sea, covering a radius of something like 2000 miles or more, to this effect: 'War declared upon England; make as quickly as you can fora neutral port.'. By this message,., which occupied but a few minutes, Germany contrived to save the greater • part of its mercantile marine. If it had but saved one of its big ships—theVaterland, or any ono of that classit would have paid for the whole cost of its wireless stations."
