Adjutant, Battle Eve, Flying Start, Kedshiro, Snub, Sandstorm.

The New Zealand Trotting Cup candidate Eccentric, is training on satisfactorily, and is almost certain to start for the big November event.

i When Prinz and Joyful collided after going about five furlongs in the Longbeach Trot Handicap at Ashburton (says a Christchurch writer), several spectators were of opinion that Brankin, who was driving Joyful, was the cause of the mishap. I interviewed some of the drivers in the race to learn the cause of the accident, and gathered that Pririg was just in front of Joyful when Bryce's horse mixed his gait and almost stepped. Brankin immediately attempted to pull out clear, but did not quite succeed, the inside wheel of his sulky struck the outside one of Bryce's sulky, with the result that both horses had their chances spoilt. If Prinz had only tangled in his hopples and gone on Brankin would have got quite clear, but the leading horso almost stopped and gave no chance for Joyful's driver to pull clear. Drivers who were in a position to see the cause of the mix-up are quite positive ,as to what took place, and during the week I saw Brankin, who verified their statements.
