THE RECRUITING CAMPAIGN.
STRONG CRITICISM OF METHODS. (Received August 11, 9.50 a.m.) SYDNEY, August 11. The "Telegraph" says:—" The fault of the recruiting campaign has been not with our young manhood, but with I the faulty enlisting arrangements, and jthe treatment after enlistment; Inj stead. of encouraging enlistment, the [recruiting system, or want of system,. f suggests that the men are not wanted." . / ' . vln the Assembly, Mr Holinan, in reply to Mr Wade's questions, whether the Government would extend, the platform of the recruiting campaign in view of the fact that the public were not yet alive to the necessity for the movement, indicated that there would be an extension. He also stated that he was negotiating with the Defence authorities to permit recruits to assist in gathering the harvest. Country members are fearful that recruiting will result in a shortage of labour at a/criticartime.
