HAYWARO'S PICTURES. "Tho Troops in Egypt" was the title of the principal picture in the new! programme screened at His Majesty's Theatre last ovening. Though the photography was. not entirely satisfactory, the matter was good, and would be of great interest to any New Zealand or Australian audience. It showed the various phases in the training and camp life of the New Zealand and Australian Expeditionary Forces in Egypt, prior to leaving to fight at the' Dardanelles. That the' training was hard and effective we know, and the picture demonstrated very fully the work of various kinds which our boys had to undergo before they left to give such a good account of themselves under the actual conditions and in the grim reality of war. The training on the desert would naturally be very arduous, especially for the infantry. Trudging through sand is not by any means an easy occupation under the most favourable circumstances, and the picture gives some idea of,what it must have been like for our men unused to great heat, to have to walk through mile upon mile of sand under the scorching Egyptian sun. The work of the artillery, mounted men, and engineers, must also have been very strenuous, and the picture bears this out. The scenic sido of the film is brought well to the fore, and some of the effects showed evidence of careful (selection. There was a good supporting programme, including topical, [dramatic, and comic subjects. A new release of the "European Gazette" ! was an especially good number, dealing mainly with war items, and principally showing the training of recruits and other members of Kitchener's army. The other subjects were: "In Fear of His Past" (drama), "Fixing their Dads" (comic), "Britannia Rules the Waves" (animated cartoon), "The Loan Shark King" (drama), and "Hogan's Upset Romanco" (comic). j
